Iran’s home appliance industry becomes self-sufficient: Data

Iran’s home appliance industry has become self-sufficient after a record increase in production last year, according to official data.

Iranian factories produced about 15 million home appliances last year, a record 71 percent increase, according to Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

There was a 30 percent increase in the production of refrigerators, 54 percent rise in laundry machines and 12 percent jump in air coolers, the latest figures show.

Around 100,000 tons of home appliances were exported in the first half of last year alone. These exports were valued at nearly 140 million dollars and sent to destination markets of neighboring countries.

Despite US and Western sanctions, this industry has been able to continue to grow decisively in the past two and a half years, Iran trade officials say.

Currently, Iranian producers have indigenized the knowledge for manufacturing 70-75 percent of the country’s home appliance needs, according to Abbas Hashemi, the secretary of the Association of Industries of Household Appliances of Iran.
