Twitter suspends accounts of top Nigerian influencers for supporting Alex Saab

US social media company Twitter has suspended the accounts of several influencers in Nigeria over tweets they posted to free a Venezuelan diplomat detained in the West African island state of Cape Verde.
Alex Saab, who has been in detention in Cape Verde since in June 2020. The 49-year-old is wanted by the US government over allegations of money laundering.
Saab, a Colombian-born businessman of Lebanese descent, was arrested when a plane he was travelling on stopped to refuel in Cape Verde. The island’s supreme court said last month it had ratified his extradition to the United States.
Shortly after his detention, on 14 June, Venezuelan foreign affairs minister tweeted in support of Saab, labelling his arrest as "arbitrary" and "illegal".
Venezuela's government, which granted Saab nationality and has given him diplomatic status as a special envoy, says he is suffering "mistreatment and torture" at the hands of the Cape Verde authorities.
