Iranian foreign minister holds meeting with Pope Francis in Vatican
Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif held a private meeting on Monday with Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, in Vatican City, Italy.
During the meeting, Zarif discussed the unilateral and oppressive US sanctions against the Iranian people, especially in the field of medicine and vaccines, and appreciated the Pope's constructive stance against these sanctions.
Zarif also expressed concern about the crisis in the Middle East and Israel’s incessant aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which entered its second week on Monday.
Other topics discussed were the common view of the Abrahamic religions about moral principles in the international community, as well as the religious significance of the family structure.
Iran’s top diplomat later met with other Vatican officials, including Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
