Kenya Intl. Sports Film Festival attracts 104 countries
The 4th Edition of the four-day Kenya International Sports Film Festival (KISFF) Virtual Edition will be held next week bringing together films from across the world.
Aasif Karim, the Chairman of Safinaz Foundation and Kenya International Sports Film Festival (KISFF) says the festival will start from 28/10/21 to 31/10/21 and it will be streamed live from Aristocrats House, Lavington, Nairobi.
"The Festival has grown in leaps and bounds and this year, it has attracted a record entry of 1410 Submissions from 104 Countries globally," he said.
Karim, a former Kenyan International Sportsman (Cricket and Tennis) has noted that every year, the submissions have been on a steady increase.
"This year 200 movies/documentaries/animated features, were short listed after achieving the required qualification criteria and India led with 220 submissions followed by the Islamic Republic of Iran with 203 entries" Karim said.
African countries with high entries include Egypt with 38 entries followed by Nigeria with 27 entries.
Karim who is also a Fellow Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator for the Kenyan Judiciary says a three tier jury spent hours going through all the submissions from Kenya and internationally and have engaged in great debates and discussions on scoring and rating these exciting sports films submissions.
"We look forward to the results to be announced on the closing day of the festival by the Head Jury -John Sibi Okumu," he added.
"I am pleased to note the increased submissions from Kenya, "noted Karim who is also a board member at Kenya Film Commission. He said that one of the key concepts of KISFF was "to have Kenya's creative industry think and take action on the 'low hanging fruit' inherent within the potential of our stories based on the 'unsung heroes' of this great nation."
KISFF has also attracted international recognition and in November it will be represented at the five-day General assembly and festival of FICTS (Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs) to be held in Milan, Italy. FICTS is the only organization recognized by International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) and KISFF was invited to be a member of the 20 Nation Sports Film Festival held globally. KISFF has also submitted some movies from the submissions received for the “World Challenge” at the FICTS festival.
The sports film festival, which was inaugurated in 2018 and is the first in Africa, is the brainchild of Safinaz Foundation that has promoted this much needed festival as a calendar event.
