Protesters in London force Israeli ambassador to flee from university debate
Furious students have gathered outside the London School of Economics on Tuesday to condemn the British university after its debate society invited Israel's Ambassador to the UK to speak at an event.
The university claims the event was meant to "encourage discourse about the Middle east", however she prevented from making a speech and was forced to flee.
She was evacuated under heavy security from the event at amid the large protest by Muslim and pro-Palestinian activists against her presence.
The students claim that by inviting the ambassador, the University is essentially hosting racism and Islamophobia".
Appointed in 2020, Israel's Tzipi Hotovely has been condemned over past comments she made targeting Arabs and Islam.
She once reportedly denied Palestine’s existence and famously said the Nakba was "a great Arab lie."
Despite the backlash and a walkout staged by students inside the debate hall, the talk went ahead.
The Palestinian Ambassador will also speak but at a separate event on the 11th November but that hasn't been enough to calm the students’ anger.
