The blessings of fasting in Sha’ban, the month before Ramadan

Shaban is the eighth month of Islam’s lunar calendar, and the month that precedes the holy month of Ramadan. One of the deeds highly recommended in this month is fasting.
Rajab and Shaban are a prelude to the holy month of Ramaḍan, when fasting is mandatory for Muslims.
Shaban is significant for many reasons. First, it is the time that Muslims start getting ready for the month of Ramadan.
Fasting in Rajab and Shaban is like mental and physical training for fasting in Ramadan. Many Muslims may experience difficulty when they start the fast in Ramadan, but if they started fasting earlier, their bodies may get used to fasting and not feel so lethargic and weak when Ramadan arrives.
The physical, mental and spiritual benefits of fasting have been emphasized in the Quean over 14 centuries ago and proven by modern science.
Fasting has been prescribed to all Muslims as a form of religious obligation for overcoming their lust and desires. and prevent becoming a slave to their appetites.
The Quran states that if humans cannot prevent themselves from desires then they cannot achieve salvation.
