Muslims worldwide prepare for Eid al-Fitr, marking end of fasting in Ramadan

Muslims worldwide are gearing up for the festival of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The holiday is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal moon. This year's celebrations falls on either May 1, 2 or 3.

Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important religious holidays in Islam, celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

The Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, announced Tuesday, May 3, as Ei-al-Fitr.
