Iran and Nigeria to expand military cooperation

Nigerian defense minister Bashir Salihi Magashi in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Nigeria has stressed the need for expanding Iran-Nigeria military cooperation.

"Nigeria pays attention to the true allies and their support as the country battles multiple threats to its territorial integrity," Magashi told Iran’s envoy, Mohammad Alibak.

The Nigerian minister of defense also asked the Iranian envoy to provide applicable models for establishing strong interactions between the armed forces of the two countries.

In June, Iran and Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, signed 9 documents of cooperation between the two countries in various fields of cultural tourism, oil, agriculture, sports and business.

Aiming to develop trade with Africa, Iran is planning to open 10 new trade centers in countries across the continent by 2023.

Iran is taking the necessary steps to increase annual trade with African countries to $5 billion by 2025.
