Britain has a new monarch. King Charles III used his first address to the nation since taking the throne to pay tribute to his late mother.
Earlier, the new king, alongside Queen Consort Camilla, met well-wishers gathered outside Buckingham Palace paying their respects after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.
During Queen Elizabeth's 70-year reign, republican rumblings surfaced on occasion, but the movement to do away with the monarchy struggled to make a lasting impression.
