14 Iranian fishermen freed 8 years after abduction in Somalia

Fourteen Iranian fishermen have returned home after eight years in captivity by al-Shabab terrorists in the East African nation of Somalia.

The fishermen were flown to Tehran’s international airport on Saturday, before being taken to their hometown of Chabahar, in southern Iran.

They were freed after Iran’s Foreign Ministry conducted lengthy negotiations with Somali government officials and tribal chiefs and elders, Iranian news agency ISNA reports.

They had been held for eight years after being kidnapped in international waters close to Somalia.
