New Year 2023 celebrations in Iran and around the world

A festive atmosphere has swept across many countries as countdowns and fireworks ushered in the Christian New Year 2023.

The celebrations for the New Year began in the tiny atoll nation of Kiribati in the central Pacific, then moved across Russia and New Zealand before heading through Asia and Europe and into the Americas.

Iranian Christian citizens gathered in Saint Sarkis Cathedral in central Tehran on December 31 to celebrate New Year's Eve.
