Syria’s President Assad visits Oman, meets with Sultan

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad visited Oman for a “work visit” and met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, state news agency SANA reported on Monday.
Oman's state news agency reported that Sultan Haitham received Assad upon his arrival at the airport in the capital Muscat.
This visit is Assad's first trip abroad since the deadly earthquake which hit Syria on February 6.
During this meeting, the Sultan of Oman expressed his condolences for the death of a large number of Syrian citizens during the recent earthquake.
He emphasized that Muscat would continue to support Damascus so that it can overcome the effects of the devastating earthquale and Western sanctions against the people of Syria.
Assad thanked the Sultan for expressing solidarity.
“Oman has always maintained its balanced policy and the region currently requires this policy in order to strengthen relations between Arab countries based on mutual respect and non-interference,” Assad said.
Both leaders emphasized on increasing bilateral cooperation in all fields and boosting security and stability in the region.
