US President Biden to discuss Niger crisis with Nigeria president Tinubu at UN
US President Joe Biden has invited his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu, to discuss the political crisis in neighboring Niger on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in September.
Aguri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, disclosed this on Saturday in a statement after a meeting between Tinubu and US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Molly Phee.
Tinubu told the US diplomat that an elected government will regain authority in Niger and the crisis will be resolved through diplomacy.
This is coming at the same time that the French government is putting pressure on ECOWAS to take military action against Niger in the name of returning deposed president Muhammad Bazoum to power.
