Tunisia expels hundreds of migrants

Tunisian security forces evicted around 500 sub-Saharan African migrants from a square in central SFAX (central-eastern Tunisia) after they were driven from their homes in early July, a non-governmental organization said.
According to
the NGO, the migrants dispersed in small groups to the countryside and other
cities.
Since
Saturday, authorities have been waging a massive security campaign against
illegal migrants, most of whom are from sub-Saharan Africa. They said they
arrested nearly 200 sub-Saharan migrants who were preparing to make an illegal
crossing to European shores.
Hundreds of
sub-Saharan migrants lost their jobs and homes in Tunisia after President Kais
Saied's February speech on illegal immigration. The attacks were recorded and
their embassy had to send back several thousand.
In early
July, hundreds more people were expelled from the city of SFAX and deported by
Tunisian security forces, especially to the Libyan desert border area, where at
least 27 people were killed and 73 disappeared.
