Nigeria Independence Day: President Tinubu urges unity to rebuild nation
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has called on his nation to unite and rebuild the West African country, as Nigeria marks its 63rd Independence Day anniversary on the 1st of October.
The president further called for courage, compassion, and commitment to nation-building, declaring his unwavering dedication to serving the country faithfully.
Tinubu also announced a six-month palliative to assist the high cost of living, as well as a pay increase for junior federal workers.
Nigeria has been struggling with security issues for over a decade, with attacks by militants Boko Haram, ISWAP. The northeast of the country has been hardest hit and has suffered both economic hardship and food shortages.
Since Tinubu came into office on May 29, 2023, there has been several changes made to government departments and security agencies.
The one change that has hit hard is the suspension of the controversial fuel subsidy, which has given rise to protests across Nigeria as citizens bemoan the high cost of living and the hike in fuel prices.
