Iran, Senegal discuss expansion of cooperation

Vice President of Iran in the field of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Rouhollah Dehghani Firouzabadi held talks with Advisor to the president of Senegal Cheikh Kanté in Tehran on Saturday. The Iranian official emphasized that Iran attaches special importance to the African continent and opportunities for cooperation with African countries.

Dehghani Firouzabadi stated that in today’s world access to technology has become more important than in the past, and that the sanctions imposed on Iran in the past 40 years have prompted the Iranian people to seek access to the sciences and technologies.

He also said that Senegal will have a bright and successful future, and that the political stability of this country is very important for this success. He further emphasized that Tehran is keen on establishing scientific cooperation with Dakar due to the political and religious proximity between Iran and Senegal.

For his part, the advisor to the president of Senegal who is also the Minister in charge of monitoring the Emerging Senegal Plan expressed his agreement for scientific and technological cooperation with Iran, stating that all university facilities under his management will cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Cheikh Kanté also described agriculture, energy, and health sectors as priorities for the Iran-Senegal cooperation and proposed that the Iranian side can sign a cooperation agreement with a university under his management as an initial step to promote the collaboration; so, professors and students can visit the academic center and transfer technology to Senegalese researchers.
